I feel sorry for this kitten, a father's surprise present for his army of kids

Image
Screenshot. A nice gesture by the dad but I feel sorry for the frightened kitten brought into a home where there is an army of kids which inevitably means a ton of noise and disruption; the opposite to what cats need and enjoy. Especially kittens. I bet there is nothing in the home to make is interesting for a cat such as climbers and scratching posts etc. And the way he brings the kitten home in a paper bag of the kind for inanimate objects bought at a shop does not look good to me. I don't see this working out great for the cat. I see the beginnings of neglect due to incompetence. I see a frightened kitten growing up fearfully and becoming anxious. I see kids mishandling the cat and the kids getting scratched. Problems all the way because of a lack of preparation in terms of education on cat caregiving. But that's me: somewhat cynical and pessimistic. You get that way when you are 74 years old. You've seen all the problems that can happen and think they will happen. It ju...

Diva ginger tabby strikes a saucy pose on the sofa

Image
He's holding that saucy position for a long time which is a little unusual. I say 'he' as most ginger tabbies are male. And he looks like a purebred cat to me because he oozes class but he probably isn't. He actually looks somewhat like a traditional Persian. I suspect that he has been grooming his tummy and just stopped while his caregiver videos him. This resulted in him 'freezing' with his right hindleg cocked in the air. You can see his tail gently flicking around. Clearly, he is engaging with what is happening around him. The tail movement indicates an interest in the video making.

Put an ice cube on your cat and see what they do

Image
What can one say about this silly TikTok video. The video maker has dreamt up a way to try and provoke a response from a very laid-back blue British Shorthair cat by placing an ice cube on them while they are minding their own business on a cat tree. And guess what? Nothing happens. Screenshot. Despite that disappointing result the video has garnered 45.3 million views!! Something has gone bananas on the internet. The video is worth about 45 hits.  Anyway, is it a good idea to place an ice cube on your cat. It is obviously very cold and that's why the person put it on their cat. They'd hoped that its coldness would upset their cat sufficiently to stimulate and exciting response. No. And it is not a good idea. It could only be uncomfortable if she/he felt it. Why deliberately make your cat uncomfortable?   Oh, I forgot: to make a silly video. British Shorthairs are pretty unflappable anyway. You'll find the breed recommended for apartment living because of their character...

Guy uses crayfish to show how stray cats hunt and it is cruel

Well, I am going to attract disagreement on this one. The video on TikTok is rather strangely described as showing how stray cats survive outside. It does not. It just show us these things: The person doing this is being cruel in placing two live crayfish or large prawns on a motorised buggy to take the animals to the cats to feed on. Do crayfish feel discomfort? Or pain? Do they have emotions? I don't know but it is likely as scientists have confirmed that fish feel pain . The crayfish also died of suffocation because they breathe through gills like fish. So, this person has committed these animals to death in one of two or both ways. Both are cruel and there was no need for it. The cats are naturally cautious about eating the live crayfish as they are jumping about (in discomfort?!!). Cats are naturally cautious when faced with a strange live or dead object. They prod and poke it to check it out and preferably kill it by batting it about the body and head as it is much safer tha...

Video of the theft of an indoor/outdoor cat on stairs of condominium

In the United States, the first thing that the cat owning public fear is their cat being attacked by a predator outside the home and that predator is often the resilient coyote . The second thing they mught fear is shown in the video below. It is the theft of their cat for nefarious purposes. It is not a great video as half of it appears to be about selling security cameras but the theft of the cat sitting on what appears to be the stairs of a condominium in New York City is the kind of thing that cat owners anywhere fear.  The owner may believe that their cat has become lost or has been killed and cannot be found. They would often have no idea that their cat has been deliberately stolen. The security camera tells them what happened if they are lucky but it is almost worse because of the fate that will them befall the cat in the hands of criminals. I am sure that some thieves see indoor/outdoor domestic cats as livestock to be 'harvested'. They are on the streets of suburbia to...

Family Man Sylvester Stallone grooms his Scottish Fold dilute calico cat

Image
Sylvester Stallone is about to star in a Paramount streaming series about his family life. And low and behold we see him grooming his Scottish Fold dilute calico cat with a brush or comb. He is seen tidying up his cat's tail.  The cat meows half in complaint but I sense he is gentle even though he is a bit of a hulk. He has a dog too who he feeds at the dinner table on his food and surrounded by a bevy of glamorous women, one of whom I presume is his wife. He likes his ladies. A lot. And they love him. The bit where he grooms his cat appears at 0.18 seconds in. He's a bit vain (a lot of vanity?) as he is irremediably attracted to cameras. He likes to be videoed and photographed which points to a belief that he is attractive to the girls and has the associated confidence to exploit it. I like Stallone. I like the films - or at least some of them - that he has made or starred in.  Now for the disclaimer. I have said that he has a dilute calico Scottish Fold. His cat is definitel...

Stray cat was beaten for 'stealing' chicken. They were badly mistaken.

The local residents thought she was cat burglar but they were badly mistaken. The local residents thought she was cat burglar but they were badly mistaken. Screenshot. The video tells the entire story clearly and concisely. No need to add words except to say that it is a good story of a mother's unfailing love and commitment in feeding her kittens and initially human ignorance followed by sensitive cat rescue and care. @xzhhamaonea The Mother’s love of a Cat! After watching it, I can’t help to cry. #CatsOfTikTok #CatLovers #CatsLife #love #FunFactsAboutCats #movie ♬ Love You So - The King Khan & BBQ Show This video has a shelf life. People who hate or are scared of cats live with one for a week and a flat-faced cat eating problem

Image
This is a 'smile on your face' video. It's almost too good to be true but it looks genuine and if so great. The cats seem to have been well chosen as they settle in very quickly. But there is a more interesting story within the story. Please read on. Flat-face cat eating problems! There is one interesting little segment in the video which caught my eye. The flat-faced cat in the video which looks like a Persian had a problem when eating. And it's a problem which I hadn't really recognised before but this new cat owner immediately saw it. Because the Persian and Exotic Shorthair don't have a muzzle which protrudes out of their face in the usual way, they have to put their entire face into the food bowl which means the face as a whole is making contact with the food if the food is flat to the bowl which it normally is. The woman who is taking care of the cat remarks that she will have to clean his face. She's right, she will. Because it is covered in gravy! He...

8-week-old male kitten carries an unrelated newborn kitten like a mother in his mouth (video)

Image
This looks amazing. An 8-week-old male kitten called Finn carries an unrelated newborn kitten in his mouth just like mother and carries the kitten to a softer more pleasant area. Who said male cats don't get involved in raising young? And the kitten is unrelated as mentioned. So young and male to be behaving like an adult mother seems very strange but loving to me. Although it is interesting to see that he gets the method slightly wrong. He has his teeth in the side of the neck of the newborn when he should be carrying the kitten by the scruff of the neck. That's just about a lack of experience, I guess. I wonder what Finn will be like when he grows up. He must have observed his mom who is also in the video and acts as a surrogate to rescued kittens. The video maker, who I guess is in cat rescue, says that the adult female is a very motherly mother. She's a good foster mom.  Not sure where the video was made but it looks like either the Middle East or Asia maybe Pakistan. D...

Tight headband around a Persian cat's head while being groomed is disturbing to me

Image
The picture of this poor Persian cat caught my eye. As it would. But I just don't get it. What I mean is why do we have to put this cat through this? I guess the headband is there to prevent the cat biting the groomer as they might because it's going to be quite a tough session to get through for the cat. The whole thing, to me, seems mindless. We create a cat with fur that they can't maintain themselves because it is too long but because it looks nice. So, we have to groom the cat commercially. And in order to do that we have to put this horrible headband around the cat's face to stop them reacting aggressively in self-defence because they feel that they are being attacked. It would not surprise me if this cat was also declawed. The cat becomes an object. A decorative object. An accessory to the home. Something pleasant to look at. A blob of fur a bit like a cushion or some other ornament around the home. But this is a sentient being. I don't like it as you can t...

Video of rescued cats being reunited with their owners after the Turkish earthquakes

Image
It is always great to see real a commitment to rescuing cats after a disaster and then reuniting them with their owners which is always a highly charged an emotional moment. The cats in this video seem incredibly calm. I am impressed both with the cats and with the rescuers. Update : the video below can only be seen on YouTube sadly but I have added one from Twitter above. At the point of reunion, of course the owners want to take their cats out of the cat carrier and hug them. Entirely understandable. But when I see this, I am concerned about the cats running off.  They are, after all, in a strange environment. They have just been through a terrifying experience. There are strangers everywhere. There is noise and commotion. Isn't there a good chance that these cats would run off and never be seen again? I think if I was the cat owner, I would take the carrier with their cat inside to their home or to a secure place if there is one and open the carrier there. Or perhaps I am being ...

Baffling behaviour of child's mother as family cat sleeps on daughter

Image
Would you remove your cat while they sleep on your daughter who's on the living room sofa? Why not leave them alone. So much better. Would you take your cat off your sleeping daughter. Image: screenshot. I feel that I need to comment on this video. It shows a large family domestic cat sleeping on the video maker's daughter. This is the kind of thing you see all the time.  Kitten sleeps on bunny. In public domain. Although you normally see a domestic cat sleeping on another animal such as a large dog (or a bunny!) for instance. But it is no surprise to see the family cat treating the daughter as "another animal". It looks like a very peaceful scene. It is a situation which needs to be preserved and it shouldn't be interfered with. However, the mother of the child wants to interfere and intervene. She thinks that the cat is going to wake up the daughter and therefore she wants to remove cat. But there's no sign that the daughter is going to wake up. The cat and ...

Petting aggression in cats

Image
The video actually doesn't add a great deal to the general knowledge of most domestic cat owners. Thanks to the Internet, there's been a massive increase in knowledge about domestic cat behaviour. And perhaps the most important aspect of domestic cat behaviour is biting their owner 😒. Or scratching their owner for that matter. And this is linked to the most important aspect of feline behaviour: hunting. It is their raison d'être - their reason for living - which I've mentioned in other articles. And domestic cats are programmed through their DNA to respond to moving objects as the narrator in the video mentions. Stimulated hunting They're 'programmed' to respond to moving objects by attacking them because it's going to be a prey animal. They also have the same response to sounds. Domestic cats can locate a target prey animal through the sound they make thanks to their excellent hearing. But if an owner waves their hand around in front of their domestic ...

Cat loves carrying baby potatoes in his mouth. Why?

Image
There is only one reason why this energetic and loving cat is almost obsessed with carrying baby potatoes in their mouth and that is they are conflating a domestic cat's instinctive desire to hunt and their desire to play which is play-hunting.  Domestic cats who are prevented from hunting have to kill time rather than animals 👍😢- MikeB So, this cat who carries baby potatoes in his mouth is play-hunting. If you watch the entire video, you will see that they push the baby potatoes around as if they were home-made cat toys which in fact they are. And when he's done, he picks the potato up in his mouth and carries it to a different location and then drops it and perhaps prods it around the room. He is carrying a prey animal in his mouth and then when he drops it, he is pushing that 'prey animal' around in exactly the same way you see domestic cats pushing mice around when they are dead or half dead. Social media interprets the behavior as strange but there is actually no...

Quick kitten rescue from sewer followed by instant adoption by observer nearby

Image
I love the instant adoption. No doubts. No questions. Just dive in and do it. And I think this relationship will last all the wat. He's a keeper as they say. There' no better way to adopt in fact as the starting point is the best. A good start often leads to a good lifelong journey.

Tell me if you think this dog risks harming kittens in his bed

Image
This video is very popular having received 14 million views. Personally, I don't see it. I don't see the attraction. I must be an exception. I see a big Golden retriever reacting to the fact that there are some almost newborn kittens in his soft and comfy bed and his reaction, as far as I can see, jeopardises the health and welfare of the tiny kittens. It is called: "Golden Retriever React to Tiny Kittens in His Bed" No one seems to recognise that potential. On one occasion he almost walks on a kitten which would have probably killed it. And the video has been edited with a piece cut out of it. What happened during that clip? All in all, for the life of me, I don't see why this video has been seen 14 million times. What do you think? Please comment.

3 cat owners take their cats for a walk on a lead and 1 is successful!

Image
Three cat owners take their cats for a walk and one of them is successful, the guy who adores cats. His adoration of cats is not the reason why his cat accepts being in a harness and going for a walk on a lead. It is because the cat either has got used to it or is naturally more relaxed in a harness with a lead. And isn't he a handsome cat? The other couple of ladies struggled. It is not their fault. It is absolutely normal to struggle when you first take your cat out for a walk on a lead. Cats simply do not understand and the harness often either causes a cat to become limp and passive as if being carried by their mother by the scruff of the neck or they want to wriggle out of it. Why Does My Cat Fall Over When I Put a Harness on Him? The second point is important because you will see 2 different types of harness in the video. The guy who loves cats has a very robust looking harness which is easier to put on as well. It is the kind of harness which a cat cannot wriggle out of. Th...

Black kitten unboxed!

Image
You know how some people make videos of the un-boxing of a fresh, new product such as an iPhone. These videos are very welcome to product fetishists. The box is almost as important as the thing inside it. In fact boxes can be quite important because it tells you quite a bit about the quality of the product contained within the box! Enough of that. @savannah_gamblin Welcome baby Azul 💙 #kittens #catsoftiktok #fyp #viral #animals ♬ original sound - Savannah Gamblin Well here we have a black kitten who is being unboxed on video. We don't know much about the back story. I have gleaned a little bit because this is a kitten box with air holes and a handle. On the side it says " Cats Are Angels with Whiskers ". Indeed they are. Until they scratch you when playing with you! Forget about that, it's not important. Kitten unboxed. Screenshot. "Cats are angels with whiskers" . Here is the same video. It is a backup copy incase the one above goes wrong 😃. M...

Baby monkey refuses to give up her kitten. Good or bad?

Image
There is a very successful video on YouTube which you can see below if you want to. It shows a young monkey, Susie, who refuses to give up her kitten to her owner. And I presume the owner is the one making the video. My guess is that it was made in Asia somewhere. The comments indicate that viewers are enamoured of the cuteness of the whole thing. I do not see it that way. The whole thing is artificially created. The owner has integrated a young monkey with some kittens knowing that the monkey would like to play with the kittens and possess them. She knew that this would produce a good video in terms of hits, and it has because it has acquired 43 million hits, but I think we need to look behind the so-called cuteness that people love to see and ask some questions. And I know that I'm being serious and actually people hate it when people are serious about things. People prefer to live superficially and look at the veneer of objects and videos like this and not dig around a bit and a...

Kitten at work sleeps with a 'head press'

Image
Kitten at work, sleeps with a 'head press'. Screenshot. Yes, this cute tabby kitten is head pressing while sleeping but this is not because they have a headache as can be the case with head pressing. It is a known feline behavior when they have headaches. Humans do it too. It alleviates the pain. RELATED:  What causes cat head pressing (headache) ? But in this instance, it is just that they've ended up sleeping in a slightly odd position which we see a lot of on the internet.  What humans think of as comfortable sleeping arrangements do not apply to cats all the time. But I love to see cats at work.  This looks a genuine work place and not home working. If I am correct this is an enlightened business. There is a gradual awakening to the possibility of allowing cats at workplaces.  The only difficulty is that someone has to take change of the toilet arrangements. They have to be thought through before the boss gives the green light.  Dogs are easier in this regar...
