A Cat Hero

Image
Here's a great cat story- about how a cat gave the "heads up" in saving a poor doggy. Cat, Firefighters Help Rescue Dog From Drain Pipe They were in the park- and then- One of those family cats, Sundae, alerted her owner that something was terribly wrong with Tiki. "He came tearing back to me, yowling the whole time, letting me know that something happened," said Church. "She made sure that I followed her back over to where she was. The kitty is as much of a hero as the Aurora Fire Department. She took me over where the pipe was … and went in a few steps. We were a couple hundred yards away -- where we had been sitting previously. The cat took me all the way back there and then I heard the dog inside there. I never would have known that he was in there at all if it hadn't been for the cat." If you go to the link, you can read the full story, and watch the news video. The black and white cat to the right is NOT "Sundae". But, the cat loo...

Cats in movies- Breakfast at Tiffany's

Audrey Hepburn. Cat. And some guy who can't get the downstairs door open. If you've never seen "Breakfast at Tiffany's"... it's a great movie, and the cat is real as well as metaphoric. Here's a photo tidbit from the denouement- Photo is from Karin at Flickr (CCL) Above is a 3 minute snippet from the first 10 minutes, which comes from Breakfast at Tiffany's(1961), part 1/14 Follow the part 1/14 link, and you can watch the movie from start to finish, thanks to a dedicated YouTuber. And, here's the important part, in text- Quote ( via imdb, with a few corrections) : Holly Golightly: Sure, sure, he's okay. Aren't you, cat? Poor old cat! Poor slob! Poor slob without a name! Well I haven't got the right to give him one. We don't belong to each other. We just took up one day by the river. I don't want to own anything until I find a place where me and things go together. I'm not sure where that is but I know what it is like. It...

Otto the rescue cat- with a huge YouTube fan club

Otto was rescued as a kitten from a Best Buy parking lot. The humans coaxed him out from under a Semi truck by feeding him some left-over hamburger from Chili's. Otto is "cat star" at YouTube. LOL! This is Otto, doing one of his "special tricks". I've watched it several times over the past few days, and it's a keeper in my category "watch this when you need a good laugh". Hoover The Rescue Cat

Image
Marion in Savannah, a faithful reader and commenter on this blog has often mentioned "Hoover the Cat" (picture below). I asked her how she got Hoover. Or, perhaps, more correctly, how Hoover got her. With her usual excellent command of all things kitteh, she replied. Here is Hoover on day 1, sleeping off the anesthetic after the visit to the vet. This is the story Marion in Savannah told me: ---Ah, where Hoover came from... I was sitting out in the garden last summer and a scrawny, SCRAWNY little gray kitten peeked around the corner of the house. I made welcoming noises and he came over to me. He was about 8 months old (best guess the vet and I could come up with), and had a ratty old flea collar on, so he must have been someone's kitteh at some point. (It's a scandal here. There are 3 colleges in town and the college kids have an appalling habit of abandoning pets when they leave for the summer, so that may be where he came from.) He came over, shed a few fl...

Japanese moggie cat musician- concert tail

Ohhh! I have discovered another cat that is destined to get a lot of YouTube viewing from me. Not sure if his name is ï¼®yanta or Yanta. His Human is in Japan, and as Human says at at his YouTube channel -- "his mother is a white Persian cat, his father is a black cat. He is a very nice cat." I would add, having watched him in several YouTubes, he is also a very charming and lovable cat! Direct link is here (0:25) Another look at Nyanta- oh, this is charming! He is all stretched out. More on Henry, The Feline Fiber Artist

Image
I recently featured a charming YouTube about Henry, The Feline Fiber Artist . Now, thanks to more information provided by Anita, Henry's Human, I can give you the scoop! This is from the Bangor Public Library flyer advertising Henry's show of his fiber arts. --Fiber Art Wall Hangings by HENRY-- ~~Henry, Anita Louise McCormick's cat, is a fiber artist too! He specializes in creating unique fiber art wall hangings. Anita adopted Henry from the Airport Mall pet store in 2002 so her other kitty, Alice, would have another cat to play with. Henry's talent as a fiber artist was discovered when his frustration with traditional scratching posts led Anita to purchase rug remnant pieces from Marden's, and nail them to the wall. It did not take him long to discover that not only did he now have a great place to sharpen his claws, but it proved to be a wonderful outlet for his artistic abilities! When a new piece of rug is attached to the wall, Henry takes time to look it over...

Henry, The Feline Fiber Artist

A short documentary about Henry, the first feline artist to have his work displayed at the Bangor Public Library. Direct link is here (1:45) p.s. I spent quite a bit of time poking around on the internet to see if I could find a local news article or more info about Henry, even checking out the Bangor Public Library website, but to no avail. If any one has a link, much appreciated if you would post it in the comments. Update- Anita sent me the clipping from the Bangor Public library, plus some great photos of Henry's works, so there's a follow-up post above.
