Diva ginger tabby strikes a saucy pose on the sofa

Image
He's holding that saucy position for a long time which is a little unusual. I say 'he' as most ginger tabbies are male. And he looks like a purebred cat to me because he oozes class but he probably isn't. He actually looks somewhat like a traditional Persian. I suspect that he has been grooming his tummy and just stopped while his caregiver videos him. This resulted in him 'freezing' with his right hindleg cocked in the air. You can see his tail gently flicking around. Clearly, he is engaging with what is happening around him. The tail movement indicates an interest in the video making.

Tight headband around a Persian cat's head while being groomed is disturbing to me

Image
The picture of this poor Persian cat caught my eye. As it would. But I just don't get it. What I mean is why do we have to put this cat through this? I guess the headband is there to prevent the cat biting the groomer as they might because it's going to be quite a tough session to get through for the cat. The whole thing, to me, seems mindless. We create a cat with fur that they can't maintain themselves because it is too long but because it looks nice. So, we have to groom the cat commercially. And in order to do that we have to put this horrible headband around the cat's face to stop them reacting aggressively in self-defence because they feel that they are being attacked. It would not surprise me if this cat was also declawed. The cat becomes an object. A decorative object. An accessory to the home. Something pleasant to look at. A blob of fur a bit like a cushion or some other ornament around the home. But this is a sentient being. I don't like it as you can t...

'Weird' should be banned when describing cat behavior

Image
Personally, I am sick and tired of seeing domestic cat behaviour described as 'weird' in YouTube videos. It really is time that people grew up on the subject of domestic cat behaviour. Humans are describing cat behaviour which they do not understand as "weird".  The word describes something which is unnatural when this is natural cat behavior under the circumstances in which they find themselves. Stop using the word please. This is a human issue. In fact, you could go so far as to say that the weird behaviour is being demonstrated by people in failing to understand domestic cat behaviour which they have an obligation to understand if they are to be good cat caregivers. It is not the place of humans to denigrate cats about their behavior because humans have failed to understand it.  Below is one of those irritating 'weird cat behavior' videos of which humans are so fond. The problem is that YouTube video makers like to develop click bait to encourage people to...

3 cat owners take their cats for a walk on a lead and 1 is successful!

Image
Three cat owners take their cats for a walk and one of them is successful, the guy who adores cats. His adoration of cats is not the reason why his cat accepts being in a harness and going for a walk on a lead. It is because the cat either has got used to it or is naturally more relaxed in a harness with a lead. And isn't he a handsome cat? The other couple of ladies struggled. It is not their fault. It is absolutely normal to struggle when you first take your cat out for a walk on a lead. Cats simply do not understand and the harness often either causes a cat to become limp and passive as if being carried by their mother by the scruff of the neck or they want to wriggle out of it. Why Does My Cat Fall Over When I Put a Harness on Him? The second point is important because you will see 2 different types of harness in the video. The guy who loves cats has a very robust looking harness which is easier to put on as well. It is the kind of harness which a cat cannot wriggle out of. Th...

TikToker scares her young cat to make a 'funny cat video'.

Image
Believe me, this is a bloody horrible 'funny cat video' but it has been seen millions of times. Why? Just don't watch the bloody thing, please. A TikToker decided to make a "funny cat video" by using TikTok's software to distort her face against a background of crap music knowing full well that it would probably scare her young cat who she is holding at the same time. So, she decided to scare her cat to make a funny cat video. Does that sound right to you?  It can't be right. But this sort of thing goes on all the time.  And this horrible video has been seen millions of times, so people enjoy it. What chance have we got of being good cat caregivers if people see this as acceptable? I guess there are a lot of people who dislike cats and don't give a damn or they are just bloody stupid. TikToker scares her young cat to make a 'funny cat video'. For about 15 years now cat owners have been making funny cat videos which are based upon frightening ca...

Cat's frantic response to the opening of an automatic cat feeder

Image
This is a TikTok video which shows a cat repeatedly becoming super-excited, almost frantic, to get to the automatic cat feeder which I presume is making a sound as it opens to alert the cat to the fact that food is available.  @couvieandkitty Beano: "Restraint? Never heard of it." #hungryeyes #catsoftiktok #cattok #beano #petsoftiktok #foodlover ♬ Hungry Eyes (From "Dirty Dancing" Soundtrack) - Eric Carmen Note : This is an embedded video from another website. Sometimes they are deleted at source or the video is turned into a link which stops it working here. I have no control over this. The cat finds this incredibly exciting, and as you can see in the video, races towards the feeder for that precious food.  The video gives me the impression that the cat is being starved 😃. Why else would a cat be so desperate to get to that food which is protected normally by the automatic feeder and which opens at a programmed time. That's my interpretation.  Perh...

A cutey in a hoody

Image
A cutey in a hoody. Screenshot, This must be a created video. Planned and executed to perfection 👌. It is cute though. It is meant to look as if they preparing to go outside for a stroll to the shops. But no. Once the videoing was done it was back to normal. I'm happy with my title. One of my better ones.

Who came out? A cute tabby kitten that's who.

Image
Just a bit of lighthearted fun. This is a nice little video. It is a strange sort of den but no doubt very effective. It has a tiny entrance. I have not seen one like this before. These dens are very important to many cats. They are very suited to timid cats. They need a place to hide but all cats need a quiet retreat where they can distance themselves from the real world 😉. Does that sound like humans? I think so. I know my cat likes to come under the duvet with me. He doesn't mind if it gives him little air. He'll stay there for 20 minutes. Dark, warm and smelly is the way he likes it.

Domestic cat squeezes through 4 inch height gap under sofa

Image
I have seen this before with a Ragdoll cat. It always surprises me a lot. It just goes to show how flexible their bodies are. Another aspect of the domestic cat's altheticism. If that has happened, I apologise but I have no control over it.

Jay Leno proves cats are smarter than dogs in a funny cat video

Image
This is Jay Leno proving that cats are smarter than dogs with a video that he made. I think he's a great guy. For a start off he loves cats. That's an instant qualification for being a great guy. And he has a great standing and status in society through his previous television work and his character. He has a really nice character which comes across in his YouTube videos about his 'garage' (car museum) and his love for cars. Yes, he loves cats and cars. There is a nice symmetry to that. Note : This is a video from another website. Sometimes they are deleted at source which stops them working on this site. If that has happened, I apologise but I have no control over it. He has a massive collection of very valuable cars which he can afford because he has a massive fortune. I don't know how much he is worth but it must be in the hundreds of millions of dollars. His car collection must be worth hundreds of millions too 😀 . And he lives in California as I remember where...

50m views for video of cats and dominos

Image
The video deserves 50 million views as it must have taken an age to set up and create. They trained the cats to play their part. I think it was made in sections over a period of days or even weeks. You need a real commitment to do this because you don't know if you'll be rewarded. If it takes 20 hours of work to create it, you can only justify that input of time and effort if you can get something out of it which means success! Success is measured in the number of views and also the amount of money you make in advertising revenue. This gamble worked out and well-done to the creator. When you see their YouTube channel you can see that they have found a successful cat video formula. That means that they are not taking a risk on whether this cats and dominos video would be successful. They know it will be successful. It is about the degree of success. One of the big issues of doing work for the internet either in writing articles or making videos: is the effort worth it? There has...

Mouse escapes cat by hitching a ride on a bike in Russia

Image
This little video should make you smile and even laugh. It was captured in Russia and it appears that there are a couple of guys on their bikes. Nearby, a cat is chasing a mouse. The mouse sees an opportunity to escape by clambering onto one of their bikes. They are amused. The mouse remains on the frame of the bike and the other guy videos it. The cat looks nonplussed because she has lost her mouse. They cycle off while continuing to film. It's the most novel way that I have seen for a mouse to escape a cat. Well done mouse and I'm sorry the cat lost her dinner. I can't embed the video so please click on this link to see it on the original site : MSN. Sorry for that. Note: these sorts of links break down over time. It is just the way it is on the internet. Here is a poor image quality still image of the great escape: Mouse escapes cat by hitching a ride on a bike in Russia

Bored cat plays with food bowl (video)

Image
This is a funny cat video from the TikTok website. The video is on a loop which gives the impression that this cat is endlessly playing with his stainless steel food bowl in a sign of sheer desperation. However, I'm sure that he plays with it for quite a short time. The rattling of it and the static nature of the cat all adds up to make the video slightly strange and amusing. But perhaps there is a serious side to this feline behaviour. I can't help but think that this chap is bored. Bored to tears with a dull life. Note: Videos such as this one inevitably stop working over time. If that has happened I'm sorry. @tiktokcats How many times did he move the food bowl? 😹😻 ♬ original sound - Cats 🐱😍 Or, perhaps, this is his way of asking for food. Maybe it's been trained into him that he requests food by rattling his food bowl a bit like Oliver Twist! Actually, I don't think Oliver Twist did rattle his food bowl but he did offer it up in a polite request. Bore...

Kitten needs some practice on allogrooming (video)

Image
This cat is messing around when grooming his sibling (allogrooming). I say messsing around but it almost looks like he needs some practice. He has clamped his brother's head to the floor with both his forelegs and he's taking little pecking-like licks of his brother's face. Not good enough mate. Perhaps he is distracted by the camera and the person holding the camera.  Is allogrooming instinctive and does this guy genuinely need practice? Yes and no respectively. I think he's just messing around. It is a mixture of allogrooming and play. Kitten makes a mess of allogrooming his brother. Screenshot.

Synchronized cats drinking from a faucet (video)

Image
This cute little video proves that cats like flowing, cool water to drink (see at base of page). It is the reason why water fountains are popular. I think water fountains are less useful that taps (faucets) because water fountains need maintenance while taps don't in terms of a build up of algae or some other crappy substance. Synchronised cat drinking from a faucet (video). Screenshot. This is a brown tabby-and-white below a ginger tabby who are both feverishly drinking from the tap. There are many videos of cats doing this. It is the first that I have seen where two cats share the experience. We should remember, though, that not all domestic cats are quite so obsessed with flowing water. Although it is to be expected as it follows what the wild cats do when drinking from streams.  It is said that cats can pick up the sterilising chemicals in human tap water such as chlorine or chloramine. The sterilising of tap water must vary from state to state in the USA. The method of ster...

Are human moms as tolerant with the kids as cat moms?

Image
This mother cat reminds me of human mothers in supermarkets. In supermarkets where you sometimes find mothers with three or four kids (and a fifth child in a pram), the mother appears to completely switch off. She becomes temporarily deaf and blind. Her kids run amok creating mayhem for others and irritating them while she carries on as normal. This is the way human mothers cope with noisy and boisterous kids. It's a switch off.  It seems to me that the same mentality and approach occurs in domestic cats. Although my impression is that domestic cat mothers are, in general, better than human mothers and that what you see in the video is a genuine tolerance and acceptance of their kittens' behaviour. There are many stories of mother cats saving kittens from dire situations such as fires. They will go to the ends of the world to save their kittens and risk their lives in doing so. I can recall one such example in which a mother cat went into a fire to save her five kittens. She...

Cat versus inkjet printer - Brit voice-over

Image
This video will make you laugh, I can pretty well guarantee it. And when you watch it you will have to come to the conclusion that all domestic cats are British because the guy who does the voice-over has a sort of working class and slightly cockney British accent and as I said he does it brilliantly. There is a world of cats who are fighting with inkjet printers. They are all over the planet slapping printers and chewing the paper that is ejected out of them. I think somebody made printers so that they could be toys for cats. I don't think you could have designed a better toy for a domestic cat than an inkjet printer because they never fail to fascinate. And cats always end up bashing the machine and chewing the paper. If they don't do that they're looking at it in fascination and when the paper starts to roll out they can't contain their excitement. I reckon they think an inkjet printer is some sort of prey item. Note I use the word "item". Not an "anim...

An Engineer's Guide to Cats

Direct link is here (6:57) Human comment: "Two professional engineers illustrate the proper care and practical benefits of cats. None of the cats, humans, or engineers were mistreated in the making of this film. They were however, slightly annoyed." Very astute and funny video. DO NOT, however, feed your cats canned tuna all the time. It is bad for them. The odd treat is fine I'd say.
