A small kitten named Wicket was found abandoned near a dumpster and had severe injuries, including a broken jaw and a broken leg. Hearthside Cats, an animal rescue organization in New York, was notified about the kitten and took her in to provide care.  Photos: Hearthside Cats. Despite the severity of her injuries and her small size (weighing only 11 ounces), Wicket had a strong will to live and received round-the-clock care, including antibiotics, pain medication, and syringe feeding. This is an astonishing and slightly disturbing video to watch at the beginning. I was unsure that I'd watch it, but I was interested in seeing what happened. I haven't watched the whole video, but it starts horrendously and finishes delightfully. It is actually not that bad and quite watchable. I don't know how this kitten survived and was brought back to life from a solid block apparently dead. The kitten was clearly solid and devoid of movement and apparently life. But heart massage was administered, and warmth gently applied together with fluids and bingo he/she came back.  I've never seen an example of near-death revival like this before. It is horrible to be perfectly frank. People are using the rescue of kittens to make money. Kittens are being exploited. Sometimes the rescue is genuine and sometimes the whole thing is scripted and set up. Either way it's an exploitation.  In this non-descript video with no more than 3000 views, which is very bad by the standards of these people, this bloke goes around some abandoned buildings looking for a kitten to rescue. That is what it looks like. He is pulling back bricks and masonry to try and find an abandoned kitten. It's almost like looking for a cockroach or something. It is quite horrible. Note: the still image which is used to promote the video looks very much set up to me. If I am correct, the video maker placed a kitten under a large tile and took the photo. This is a video by a guy called Anton, as I understand it. He lives in the Russian city of Zheleznogorsk (Krasnoyarsk Krai, Russia). It is a city with a population of about 85,000. Going east to west it is about in the centre of Russia and north of Mongolia. In the video he goes up to a tiny grey tabby kitten. How did the kitten get there? What is the backstory? We don't know but the kitten was abandoned. Was he or she abandoned by a person or the feline mother? Too many questions and no answers. Anton is gentle and thank God he turned up to save the life of this kitten. I would think that he or she would not live long on the streets of this city. Enjoy the video.   A kitten who has been named Cindy Lou Who was rescued from Los Angeles' streets and found her way to a foster carer of cats, Aly. Aly says that Cindy Lou was shaking and hissing whenever people got too close. But she was meowing in hunger as well. She was torn between two things; getting food while being fearful of the people who wanted to give her food. So as you can see Aly put some enticing food on a spatula and gingerly handed it out to Cindy who licks it off. It's the beginning of socialisation I think. She began to emerge from her hiding place. Aly did her best to reassure Cindy Lou and, "The moment she realised I was here just to give her food and water, she immediately started purring".   When a ginger kitten loves his foster dad it can create a problem for the foster dad! People who are foster carers to rescue cats are doing a job and that job is to look after a cat or kitten until they find a new permanent home. If they become that new permanent home their foster caring days are normally over. Perhaps their days as foster carers are not necessarily over but I think you'll find that some or perhaps all rescue organisations insist that their foster cats are kept separate from the resident cat. Cats Protection, the biggest cat rescue organisation in the UK based upon foster caring insist that their cats are kept in a special enclosure which they provide. You can't let your cat mixed with the foster cats. This must be for health reasons. This kitten rescue looks like it took place somewhere in the Middle East or in Asia. It looks wrong to me. What I mean is that it looks as though it was made for YouTube to raise money through advertising. It may have even been set up from beginning to end but I don't want to sound too cynical.  I also don't like the way the rescuer (the video maker) has to hold his smartphone with one hand and remove the sticky tape from the box with his left hand. This slows things down when the kitten needs rescuing as quickly as possible. This hints at the commercialisation of a kitten rescue. Commercialising kitten rescue compromises it. It makes it less effective. In fact I would not be surprised if the video maker put the kitten in the shoe box and sealed it with tape. Then he filmed the "rescue".
