Everybody loves the Pallas's cat ('manul' is the scientific name). This is because they are very cute looking. Although they are a wild cat species and therefore, they won't always be cute if you are thinking of living with one. Very few people actually adopt this wild cat as a pet thankfully but you see quite a lot of them in captivity. The kittens are particularly cute and, in the UK, in captivity, they have managed to breed this cat species. Note: there is always the discussion of whether you say 'Pallas's cat kittens' or 'Pallas's kittens'. As the name of this cat species is 'Pallas's cat' I think my preference is correct. There can only be 2 overlapping and viable reasons why domestic cats sometimes like to wriggle their way into relatively small glass jars and vases. You see this a lot on the Internet in funny cat videos. The two reasons are (1) they can do it because they are incredibly flexible and athletic and it is a form of self-entertainment and (2) domestic cats do like to crawl into small spaces as they feel more secure. This statement is borne out by the fact that we have seen cats sitting in a circle marked out on the floor with tape or chalk. To the cats this is a solid, secure encampment protected by an invisible wall. But it's just thin air. This short post is about getting the name right for the leopard cat. The scientific name is:  Prionailurus bengalensis . This is the wild cat ancestor of the wild cat hybrid the popular Bengal cat. There is going to be confusion about this small wild cat's name. My understanding is that the correct name for this cat is the Asiatic leopard cat or just the straightforward "leopard cat". Sometimes people refer to the cat as the Asian leopard cat. And sometimes as is stated in the title to this post, people refer to the same species as the Amur leopard cat and even the Far Eastern forest cat.
