I feel sorry for this kitten, a father's surprise present for his army of kids

Image
Screenshot. A nice gesture by the dad but I feel sorry for the frightened kitten brought into a home where there is an army of kids which inevitably means a ton of noise and disruption; the opposite to what cats need and enjoy. Especially kittens. I bet there is nothing in the home to make is interesting for a cat such as climbers and scratching posts etc. And the way he brings the kitten home in a paper bag of the kind for inanimate objects bought at a shop does not look good to me. I don't see this working out great for the cat. I see the beginnings of neglect due to incompetence. I see a frightened kitten growing up fearfully and becoming anxious. I see kids mishandling the cat and the kids getting scratched. Problems all the way because of a lack of preparation in terms of education on cat caregiving. But that's me: somewhat cynical and pessimistic. You get that way when you are 74 years old. You've seen all the problems that can happen and think they will happen. It ju...

Quick kitten rescue from sewer followed by instant adoption by observer nearby

Image
I love the instant adoption. No doubts. No questions. Just dive in and do it. And I think this relationship will last all the wat. He's a keeper as they say. There' no better way to adopt in fact as the starting point is the best. A good start often leads to a good lifelong journey.

Infographic checklist on domestic cat adoption

Image
A useful (I would say that 😃) infographic checklist of things to think about when considering adopting a domestic cat companion for the first time. Or even the second and third if previous attempts were failures. I believe that there should never be any failures. Every cat adoption should be a resounding success. This can be achieved by work in preparation and honest self-examination.  This is a cross-post from PoC because when I take a bit of time preparing an image as is the case in this instance👍I think it is sensible to use it wherever I can 😉. Black kitten unboxed!

Image
You know how some people make videos of the un-boxing of a fresh, new product such as an iPhone. These videos are very welcome to product fetishists. The box is almost as important as the thing inside it. In fact boxes can be quite important because it tells you quite a bit about the quality of the product contained within the box! Enough of that. @savannah_gamblin Welcome baby Azul 💙 #kittens #catsoftiktok #fyp #viral #animals ♬ original sound - Savannah Gamblin Well here we have a black kitten who is being unboxed on video. We don't know much about the back story. I have gleaned a little bit because this is a kitten box with air holes and a handle. On the side it says " Cats Are Angels with Whiskers ". Indeed they are. Until they scratch you when playing with you! Forget about that, it's not important. Kitten unboxed. Screenshot. "Cats are angels with whiskers" . Here is the same video. It is a backup copy incase the one above goes wrong 😃. M...

Couple bought a house that came with 16 semi-feral cats and they decided to become their parents

Image
2 of the cats snuggle up in their new cat house. Photo: Instagram screenshot. This is a wow story. I love the way this young couple decided to embrace the fact that they had 16 semi-feral cats living in the ground of the home that they'd recently bought. It looks like quite a large plot of land with outbuildings and it appears that the previous owners had allowed a couple of cats to procreate because as you can see, they are all medium-longhaired ginger cats. Well, nearly all of them. I have to say the property is ideal really to care for 16 semi-feral cats with lots of grounds and buildings. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Emily Bott (@freedomfarmhouse) The first thing that this couple did was to sterilise them! And then they set about improving their lives tremendously. It is an act of giving and loving. They didn't have to do this but they took it on and in giving love they have received it and both of them now cannot envisage a life without...

You'll love this chonky, jowly ginger tom street cat

Image
He is described as the "Huge Stray Cat Got into a Shelter and Suddenly Talked to People". We do not know how 'Clanksy' got into the shelter. They don't say that he was brought into the shelter but that he got into it which implies that he walked into it of his own accord. But what the shelter staff love about him, and the same applies to me, is that he has this beat up male tomcat appearance with huge cheeks because he was not neutered combined with a sweet voice and the desire to be a friend. This ginger tomcat has a beautiful personality. The video has been deleted at source! Typical. But here is a montage of the fella: You'll love this chonky, jowly ginger tom street cat. Image: Pinterest. The word 'chonky' is not a typo 😉. It is a strange personality really because as a stray cat he should be more fearful of people but clearly he is not. He likes people. He wants to talk to them in his sweet voice. It's almost certain that he was fed from tim...

Cat Adoption in the UK- What's the Problem?

Image
Hi, this is Michael, I run the Pictures of Cats.org website and work with VG. VG asked me to do a post about cat adoption in UK and whether it could be more efficient. The following gives the essence of a much longer exchange we had via email and chat: VG: Hi Michael, from reading my blog stats, there are UK readers who are looking to adopt/ rescue a cat, and “outclick” either to your site, or to the petfinder.com link I give near the top right. You know I found Tootsie, my Maine coon, via petfinder.com US, by searching their internet data base of cats available for adoption. Do you know of any similar thing in the UK? I’ve searched around and can’t find anything like Petfinder in the UK. Michael: Here’s a link to the largest cat rescue organization in the UK, but they don’t have much of an internet presence - http://www.cats.org.uk/ VG: Okay, I’ve checked out the site extensively. I am very surprised to find that there is no way of searching the site to find details of ca...

Cat adoption videos (and pictures)

I have, one way or the other, found some nice cat videos from cat rescue sites, which are "PR" to help get the cat adopted. I applaud the work of volunteers who make these informative videos- they add so much. Here's one I found recently: Kitty loves box. Direct link is here (1:09) Here's one I featured previously: Kitty playing with legos. Adorable! Direct link is here (1:31) I particularly liked the fact that YouTube #2 gave a link to the web page of the shelter. Back when, I checked it out and decided to add the shelter to the blog roll as a result- there are actually few videos, but the site is great. Similarly, I did the same with another shelter that I found via a YouTube. YouTube #1 above did not give such information, which was a bit frustrating. Not all shelters have the volunteer-power to make such videos, but when they do it surely must help find the cats (and dogs and...rabbits) a new home. Kudos to those volunteers. Online information can be very h...
