Showing posts with the label other stuff

And now for something completely different

I just discovered that there is an official Monty Python YouTube presence here . I had to kick back after getting through the semester (I think). File this in the "other stuff" category. That mostly means "no kittehs". Just other stuff I like. So, off I went to YouTube... and, here we have it... Direct link is here. Direct link is here.

Cat blogging, negative feedback, and toilets

Apologies to all my regular and irregular readers. My cat blogging has been suffering because of my day job, which is overboard at this point. In trying to make up a final exam, I ACTUALLY found this question in an online test bank. Multiple Choice Question 1. Which of the following is most similar to the negative feedback mechanism in human physiology? A) A car runs out of gas and stops. B) A teacher marks all the wrong answers on students' exam papers. C) A toilet tank refills itself after a flush. D) An automatic door opens as soon as somebody approaches it. E) A clock ticks on a shelf. Hint:

Oh Lady Luck, Singing in the Bathtub- 1929 reprise

I have certainly delved into some unexpected YouTube territory, thanks to my Kitteh Blog. Music stuff. And, as I said in my header, "and occasionally some other stuff, maybe". This would be that. And, this is from 1929. Yanno, 1929. Like, history repeats itself. I couldn't find the lyrics of the opening song, by means of ample use of teh google, so I listened hard, and wrote them out as best I could. Oh my calamity Don’t bother me Keep right on your way, Whatever it takes To make lucky breaks Is what I’m needing today Oh that’s not the place of my complaint I hereby call upon my Patron Saint Oh Lady Luck, I’ve got you on my mind So won’t you won’t please to kind me Oh Lady Luck, Don’t give my hopes a rest And I’ll be happy as can be Just stick around with me for a while Show me your golden smile Oh, Lady Luck You know at times you could So won’t you please be good to me? Other stuff- movies- Fred Astaire- Taps

I started this blog in a moment of madness, because I had found so many great kitty YouTubes, and sent them to friends. But then I thought, well, why not start a blog... so that I can have a record of all these great YouTubes for anyone who wants to watch. But, I didn't have any idea where it would go, so I left myself an out: "and occasionally some other stuff, maybe". I'm a cat fan, but also enjoy the art and craft of movies, albeit with a certain eclectic view. Occasionally I go off on a "movie tear" at YouTube. I was off watching Fred Astaire when I remembered an item of memorabilia I had saved. I was in NYC visiting a friend (you'll see the date) and saw this on the news stand. I had to grab a copy- or rather, it reached out and grabbed me. "Taps for Fred Astaire". This is the clip I was watching when I remembered that piece of newspaper memorabilia I had tucked away- "Puttin' on the Ritz". Direct link is here

Inspiration- rowing and rugby- no kittehs visible

Okay, the subtitle of the blog says "and occasionally some other stuff, maybe". I've gone off into music, but never sports before, because I am a sports fan in only a limited fashion. Nonetheless, and just because I love both of these YouTubes... A student of mine is a rower. He was wondering about missing an exam because of a rowing event. That got me into YouTube rowing land. "Inches"- Direct link is here (4:06) I found this one a while back. I lived in the UK for 10 years, with a Welshman rugby fanatic. And, the tale of this "try" lives on in the history of Rugby Union. I actually found it to send to two women, one being Marcy Wheeler aka Emptywheel (a first class blogger with a steel trap mind) who played Rugby at Amherst College. "The greatest try of all time." Direct link is here (1:29) p.s. And, but... feline characteristics are sometimes invoked to describe rugby players, as follows : "When his markers knew his intent...

And, totally unrelated...
