About Jones the ginger tabby ship's cat who Ripley befriended in the Alien film

Image
Some people want to know a bit more about "Jones" a.k.a. Jonesy, from the from the film Alien . In fact, four ginger tabby cats played Jones. The fandom.com website says that one individual was used for holding, one for hissing one for scampering and another for something else 😊. It is normal and commonplace for more than one individual animal to play the same character in a film. Ginger tabbies are nearly always male as the coat type is sex-linked. Jonesy and Ripley. Image in public domain. As mentioned, Jonesy is a male ginger tabby cat. They are sometimes referred to as orange tabby cats or red tabby cats. They tend to have nice, steady characters. Perhaps this is why a ginger tabby was chosen for this role. They are a popular cat type. Jonesy and Ripley. Screenshot. Jonesy was a ship's cat on the mining carrier spaceship Nostromo. Ripley, as you may remember is played by Sigourney Weaver. When they finally escape the USCSS Nostromo after the alien has wiped out the ...

Cat meowing (audio file). Make sure your cat is okay with this!

Image
This audio track comes from the Spotify website. I visited it to check out the Joe  Rogan podcast which is currently in the news . I then searched for some cat sounds and came up with these meows. The interesting thing about these meows is that my cat immediately woke up (he was on my legs) and went over to the speaker for my laptop computer to inspect it. He knew the sound was coming out of the speaker but couldn't figure out why there was no cat there. So, if you play this track with your cat around, I think you should expect a reaction. It may be an unpredictable reaction. It may even be a reaction which your cat doesn't like and neither do you as your cat might feel that there is a stranger cat on their territory. The feline meow. Normally a request for something. The meow varies greatly and is often modified and individualised and customised. Pic in the public domain.

Billy Connolly makes a joke about a tragic and true story of the killing of a domestic cat

Image
Billy Connolly has been cleared by Ofcom after complaints by the public because he recited a joke based upon a true story told to him by Liam Neeson during the documentary Billy Connolly: My Absolute Pleasure which aired on ITV over the holidays. Billy Connolly loves the story because it was originally meant to be a sad tale of the killing of a domestic cat. But he couldn't resist taking this sad reality and dressing it up and "making people fall about laughing". I'm not sure everybody will fall about laughing. I am one of those people. I don't see anything fun in it at all. Billy Connolly didn't see the story as a 'sad tale'. Photo in the public domain. I see the way it might be funny to some people but it is frankly too horrible to be funny. This is the story. It goes back to when Liam Neeson was filming Rob Roy . It's a film about the 18th-century Scottish clan chief who became a folk hero. Neeson was being driven by the film's armourer in ...

Sibling tabby cats being rehomed after almost 20 years together

Image
NEWS AND COMMENT-WEST MIDLANDS, UK: This is an unusual story in one respect: brother and sister tabby cats who are approaching 20-years-of age, have been together all their lives. Now, regrettably, they have to be rehomed together by the RSPCA. They are currently being cared for at the Broomhall branch because their owner was no longer able to provide the requisite caregiving. Bernard and Barbara, sibling tabby cats, who've been together their entire lives of nearly 20 years. Photo: RSPCA. It is unusual for feline siblings to remain together all their lives as close companions. Their names are Bernard and Barbara. They are being cared for by the RSPCA in Worcester, Worcestershire, UK. In human terms they are about the age of 92. They are in good shape despite their age and have been recently health checked. No health concerns were identified apparently. Obviously, the siblings are upset because they had a very quiet and predictable life together for a very long time and are now upr...

The Art of the Batman - Zoë Kravitz on working with cats in the film

Image
The much-anticipated Matt Reeves film The Batman to be aired on March 4, 2022, includes cats 👍! And Zoë Kravitz, who is one of the stars of the film, had a few choice words to say about wrangling cats on the set which were posted to Twitter and which you can see below. I'm going to dictate the actual words to fill out the page! 'The Art of the Batman is a book on the art of the film series. Zoë Kravitz on cats in The Batman. Image: Twitter. Zoe Kravitz said about cats in the film:  The funny thing about working with cats is that they don't care - which is why we love them. Like, I spent time with all the cats before we shot with them, but they don't remember me [laughs]. Like they don't give a shit. The funniest thing would be us getting ready to shoot and we'd have these cat wranglers come in who had these toys to make the cats stay on their marks, and it would kinda work, but not really. So, it ended up that we were always waiting for the cats - like we'd...

Talented Japanese artist makes hyper-realistic 3D cat portraits from felt

Image
Kanagawa, Japan : Japanese artist, Sachi, is incredibly skilled, patient and precise. She makes cat heads from felt and glass eyes. She is particularly precise about the eyes because she feels that the soul of the cat is projected through the eyes. That's my interpretation.  I think what she means is that if the eyes look really realistic it brings the cat alive. They give the cat a soul which allows your imagination to believe that it is a real cat. And they do look incredibly realistic. Hyper-realistic 3D cat portraits made from felt with glass eyes. Screenshot. They are described as hyper-realistic 3D cat portraits. The preparation of the iris and pupil is very precise. The coloration and the texture are perfect. And the hairs that come out of the ear flaps look super-realistic as well. She said: "I think that the moment when the cat's spirit enters into the artwork can be presented through the eyes. In that sense, I have been very particular about how to make the ey...

Who came out? A cute tabby kitten that's who.

Just a bit of lighthearted fun. This is a nice little video. It is a strange sort of den but no doubt very effective. It has a tiny entrance. I have not seen one like this before. These dens are very important to many cats. They are very suited to timid cats. They need a place to hide but all cats need a quiet retreat where they can distance themselves from the real world 😉. Does that sound like humans? I think so. I know my cat likes to come under the duvet with me. He doesn't mind if it gives him little air. He'll stay there for 20 minutes. Dark, warm and smelly is the way he likes it.
