The Art of the Batman - Zoë Kravitz on working with cats in the film

The much-anticipated Matt Reeves film The Batman to be aired on March 4, 2022, includes cats 👍! And Zoë Kravitz, who is one of the stars of the film, had a few choice words to say about wrangling cats on the set which were posted to Twitter and which you can see below. I'm going to dictate the actual words to fill out the page! 'The Art of the Batman is a book on the art of the film series.

Zoe Kravitz said about cats in the film:

The funny thing about working with cats is that they don't care - which is why we love them. Like, I spent time with all the cats before we shot with them, but they don't remember me [laughs]. Like they don't give a shit. The funniest thing would be us getting ready to shoot and we'd have these cat wranglers come in who had these toys to make the cats stay on their marks, and it would kinda work, but not really. So, it ended up that we were always waiting for the cats - like we'd be ready to go, but then the cat would decide to move. People would have to hide behind the cabinets or in the corners, so me and Rob would be doing a scene and there are these cat ladies tucked away and pretending not to be there. It was pretty funny because, at the end of the day, you cannot tell a cat what to do. Like, after all the car flips and fights and chases, one of the hardest things to do onset was getting the cats to stay put.

Note: cats do recognise people. In fact, they have a good memory for people, normally those that have cared for them over many years. They remember their voice and appearance. Cats have good long-term memories for people and I'll presume other cats. Benedict Cumberbatch would say something similar about cats on film sets in reference to his latest film The Electrical Life of Louis Wain.

One problem here is that celebrities such as this actress and other people tend to treat cats as if they are dogs. They want cats to be obedient like dogs. You can't do that. They are two completely different species as we are all fully aware but instinctively people tend to drift into this notion that "pets" are obedient and for them, pets are merging of cats and dogs. This, I think, is at the root of the statement made by this actress.
