Cats and dogs rescued from frontline by Ukrainian volunteers

The Independent reports that "Zoopatrul Ukraine has rescued over 1000 cats and dogs from war during the last 11 months".

I love these guys and ladies who are thinking of animal welfare under the most difficult conditions.

Someone has to look after the animals because humankind has a moral obligation to do it as it is through human folly that this horrendous war started in the first place.

It is the folly of Vladimir Putin and his expansionist policy to try and turn Russia back into the USSR. And in the meantime, about half a million animals are killed. The last statistic I saw was that around a third of a million animals have been killed in the Ukraine war but that was about six months ago.

I believe that we have an obligation to think about all those cats and dogs, domestic animals, that are now wandering around hopelessly lost in the rubble of what was once their home. And the zoo animals. And livestock and horses. I could go on. All victims of Putin's crimes.

These people care about them. Not many people actually think about the animals. How do I know? This video has been seen by a little over a hundred people in the last 12 hours.

That is not a lot. You would expect many thousands of views for videos about the Ukraine war if the content was about people and about tanks being destroyed and helicopters shot down et cetera.

It always irritates me - although I can be irritated quite quickly nowadays because I'm an old man - that humankind tends to de-prioritise animal welfare well below that of human welfare even though these are innocent victims of, frankly, ridiculous human behaviour. I'm referring to this war.

It really serves no purpose whatsoever. It's just a bunch of Russians with traditional concepts and paranoid viewpoints about Russia being threatened by the West specifically NATO.

These guys are paranoid. NATO is a defensive organisation. Putin thinks that his precious Russia is surrounded by NATO members on the Western front about to invade his blinking country.

Therefore, he has to send out his hapless army and kill tens of thousands of innocent Ukrainian citizens and hundreds of thousands of animals to feed his paranoia. It's human madness. And what about the Russian soldiers? Cannon fodder to the slaughter.
